Semester: 5 / Winter
Lectures/Classes: 30 / 30 hours
Field of study: Environmental Engineering
Study cycle: 1st cycle
Type of course: optional
Prerequisites: Math, Phisics, Fluid Mechanics, Hydrology, Hydraulics, basic knowledge about Hydrotechnic structures, basic knowledge of Geotechnics, english knowledge level – min. B2
Contact person: PhD Robert Głowski, robert.glowski@upwr.edu.pl
Short description: During course students achieves basic theoretical knowledge of hydraulic engineering – related to the design of channels, spillways, weirs, energy dissipation basins. The topic concern hydraulic structures, the channels capacity, flow conditions, the water energy dissipation below hydraulic structures, problems generated by sediment transport and various other topics related to the subject. After completed course student has the basic knowledge about the rules of hydraulic structures design and the problems generated by the sediment transport.
Full description: Fundamental terms in hydraulic engineering, channel parameters design, flow resistance ( channel roughnes), spillway parameters design, design parameters of dissipation basin (construction dimensions), sediment transport parameters – shearing velocities, critical sediment transport shear stresses, local scour.
