Short description: Theoretical and practical knowledge about selected hazardous and industrial waste and the ability to evaluate its practical applications. Evaluation of the nature of such waste and the determination of potential opportunities to utilize these materials in national economy. Waste management principles in the view of binding legal regulations. General characteristics of types of hazardous and industrial waste and their influence on the environment. Detailed characteristics and manners of handling selected types of hazardous and industrial waste. Thermal waste treatment.
Full description: The student possesses well-organised, theoretically-based general knowledge about key issues related to selected hazardous and industrial waste and the ability to evaluate its practical applications. (S)he possesses the knowledge that allows for the initial assessment of the nature of waste and to order adequate property analyses to be used as a basis for the potential opportunities to utilize the materials in national economy. (S)he knows how to identify individual types of hazardous and industrial waste generated in various types of economic activity. (S)he demonstrates the understanding of principles that enable the assessment of the properties of hazardous and industrial waste and is able to suggest a safe method of disposal. The student can analyse the functioning of facilities, equipment and processes connected with the management of certain types of hazardous and industrial waste. (S)he is able to present an outline description of a problem related to the management of such waste (S)he is able to specify the issues connected with managing landfills for the storage of hazardous and industrial waste. (S)he can select appropriate criteria for the evaluation of acceptable variants of actions and specify the method of disposal, processing and recycling of selected industrial and hazardous waste; (s)he is familiar with waste management principles; (s)he knows the principles of the evaluation of waste and has the ability to determine waste code.
