Short description: Pathophysiology is a discipline connecting basic and clinical sciences. The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge of the organism function in the state of illness and to consider functional mechanisms leading to the development of lesions and changes resulting from the disease. Students will get to know basic concepts connected with the knowledge about the disease and mechanisms leading to the homeostatic imbalance. They will learn about the dynamic of processes deciding for the disease development. There will be discussed issues concerning aetiology and pathogenesis of the systemic processes and chosen systemic disorders.
Full description: The concepts of health and disease. Homeostasis and disease. Functional regulation and regulation during the disease. Adaption in the course of the disease. Allostasis. Compensation, adaptation. Nosology. The disease development (evolutio morbi). Pathogenesis, sanogenesis. Aetiology of the disease. Disorders of the metabolic processes. The role of vitamins and microelements in regulation of metabolism. Disorders of endocrine glands function. Water and electrolyte imbalance. Acid-base balance disorders. Pathophysiology of the circulatory system. Pathophysiology of the respiratory system. Pathophysiology of blood and hematopoietic organs. Haemostatic disorders. Etiopathogenesis of neoplasms.
